Sleepy Hollow Chair
A button-tufted Victorian easy chair rebuilt with a horsehair and down interior.
- Era
- Victorian
- Materials
- Horsehair, down, ticking, cotton, button-tufted velvet
Sleepy Hollow chairs were built for sinking into, and this one was restored to feel the way it did when it was new.
The first stuffing is horsehair, stitched into burlap to form firm edges. It is topped with down and backed with more hair, then pulled down and shaped under ticking. A layer of cotton goes over that before the green velvet is buttoned into place.
