Parlor Set, Circa 1920
A matched settee and pair of tub chairs, rebuilt layer by layer in traditional materials.
- Era
- About 1920
- Pieces
- Two tub chairs and a settee
- Materials
- Jute webbing, tied coil springs, burlap, horsehair, cotton, velvet
This three-piece parlor set came in with collapsed seats and tired, mismatched upholstery. Every piece was stripped to the bare frame.
From there each was rebuilt the traditional way: new jute webbing, coil springs tied by hand, burlap, stitched edge rolls, horsehair and cotton, and finally a soft lavender velvet. The photographs below follow the work from frame to finish.
